Daily (but not really) #6
Mar. 22nd, 2025 07:58 pmWoooo, massive life update time. I'm studying music production in London at the same branch because the French institute were so useless and aloof that I gave up. I rushed to get an ancestral visa in two weeks and now I'm here until I get a UK passport in 6 years time.
I've definitely had my ups and downs, but being independent in a big new world has been the most freeing experience that could happen to me. It hasn't even been 2 months and I feel like I've grown so much since I've left. I do all sorts of new things and talk to all sorts of new people without fear. My classmates and school staff are the most wonderful, kind and talented bunch I've ever met, and most people in London are really polite and pleasant. I miss the South African scenery a lot though, and the prices too! But my experiences at home have left me much to write music about. I love being able to walk around at night on my own and being able to take public transport anywhere I want to.
I've booked to see all sorts of places, including a weekend in York and a day trip to Guildford to see a Lewis Carroll archive etc. And I can simply book a train ticket on a whim! The infrastructure is great here too. I got a British Library reader card which allows me to see all kinds of niche books and manuscripts in big fancy reading rooms.
I've also booked for my first LARP event (Empire) next month, super excited and the people seem super kind.
There's so much I could write about but I would run out of any reader's attention span, and mine.
